Jennifer Kern - 2009 IBEA Secondary Teacher of the Year

Jennifer Kern teaches in the business department at Heritage Hills High School. She has taught at Heritage Hills for 25 years. She serves as the Business Professionals of America advisor and has done so since 1993-1994 school year. Her students operate the school bookstore as well as maintain the corporation, high school, middle school, and the adult education school’s websites. Jennifer also has served as a coach, freshman and senior sponsor, and presently serves as the Junior Class sponsor.
Jennifer graduated with a Business Major and PE Minor from Oakland City University. She has a Masters of Education from Indiana University Southeast and a Vocational License from the University of Southern Indiana. Jennifer is a member of IBEA, NEA, ISTA and Business Professionals of America.
Jennifer was awarded the Indiana Computer Educator’s Teacher of the Year for Heritage Hills High School in 1995. She has been married for 32 years to her husband Alan Kern, and reside in Huntingburg, Indiana. She has two daughters Natalie and Steffanie. Jennifer states, “we have been blessed with a granddaughter and a grandson.’
Jennifer and Alan serve as youth leaders in their church, and Jennifer enjoys making jewelry and spending a lot of time with her family. Congratulations Jennifer Kern on being named as the 2009 IBEA Secondary School Teacher award recipient

Pamela Raines - IBEA 2009 Middle School Teacher of the Year

Pamela K. Raines teaches at Northridge Middle School in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She has taught at the middle school since 2002 where she serves as a Team Leader, Exploratory Department Chair, and Technology Trainer. Pam taught at North Montgomery High School before moving to her current position. She has been teaching for a total of 32 years within the North Montgomery Community School Corporation.
Pam holds her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education, her Vocational Business Education Endorsement, and her Masters degree in Business Education from Indiana State University. Pam is a current member of IBEA, ISTA, and NEA., in addition to her past memberships with Delta Pi Epsilon, and Pi Omega Pi.
Pam has received awards through her school corporation and has been awarded by the Indiana Department of Education. She has served on Indiana Business High School Curriculum projects and Project-Based Learning Curriculum. When not working on projects and teaching, Pam loves NASCAR racing. She states that she enjoys the Brickyard, Eldora, dirt track racing, and photography.
Pam’s daughter, Megan, is a Respiratory Therapist for IVY Tech-Terre Haute. Pam also has a boxer puppy named “TwinkerBell” Congratulations Pamela Rains on being named as the 2009 IBEA Middle School Teacher award recipient.

Tina Waechter - 2009 IBEA Emerging Professional |
Tina Waechter currently teaches at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is in her fourth year of teaching at Ben Davis where she teaches a Business-Technology Lab program. She has been a teacher leader and professional development facilitator for the school corporation, in addition to serving as a leader in the Ben Davis Project Based Learning initiative.
Tina is a graduate of Indiana State University where she holds a triple major in: Business Education, Business Administration, and Information Design and End User Computing. She also completed her Vocational Endorsement through Ball Sate University in the Summer of 2007. In 2008, Tina participated in the pilot teacher Internship program that matches teachers with businesses around the state to learn and develop in specialized areas. The program is offered through he Indiana Department of Workforce Development and InternNet.
This past June Tina got married and bought a house together with her husband. She states, “We are still settling in and getting adjusted to each other.” She enjoys playing with her 7 nieces and nephews all under the age of 6. She comments they all keep her and her husband on their toes. Congratulations Tina Waechter on being named the 2009 IBEA Emerging Professional award recipient.

Dr. Mary Ellen Adams- IBEA Friend of Business Education for 2009
Dr. Mary Ellen Adams is a retired faculty member of the Business Education program at Indiana State University. Although she has retired, she is still active in participation within our teaching discipline. Dr. Adams holds degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington and has some additional studies from Southern Illinois University.
Dr. Adams states, “One of the great things about teaching is that it affords many opportunities to learn from students and colleagues.” Dr. Adams has taught various course offerings at Indiana State, including business report writing, computer applications, and a methods course. During Dr. Adam’s career not only has she taught at the post-secondary level, but she has been heavily involved in IBEA, Pi Omega Pi, writing curriculum for the state level and has been published in various publications.
Since retirement, Dr. Adams has mentioned that she has had very limited time for travel, but anticipates more very soon. Currently, she is working with Pam Raines on projects connected with the business middle school curriculum. She also states that watching football and basketball games are a favorite pastime.
Her office is still located on the seventh floor of the Donald W. Scott college of Business at ISU. She loves for former students and friends to “drop up” Congratulations Dr. Adams on being named as the 2009 IBEA Friend of Business Education award recipient.
